2015 was supposed to be the Queensland Reds' year. Richard Graham had gone berserk over the off-season and recruited more heavily than Sarina Russo.
It was glorious.
This aggressive recruitment drive was intended to solidify our position in 2015 and erase the calamity of 2014 from the collective memory of all Reds fans.
Things got so bad last year, through injuries, that some people thought Richard Graham might have to start plucking randoms from the Queen Street Mall to make up his backline. We were decimated and limped through 2014 under a haze of criticism from all and sundry.
Even before the 2015 season begun we had received a proverbial kick in the nuts when Quade Cooper busted his clavicle in a full contact training run.
From there star recruit Karmichael Hunt got pinched for cocaine related offences while a string of starting Reds have all been sat on the sideline for a dizzying array of injuries.
James O'Connor, Lachie Turner, Samu Kerevi, J.J. Taulagi, Duncan Paia'aua, Greg Holmes, Ed Quirk, Ed O'Donoghue, Rob Simmons, Beau Robinson and Hendrik Tui are all in the sick bay for some reason or another at the moment.
If the Reds could just manage to field a full strength squad we would surely be the scourge of the Super Rugby tournament, rolling all oppositions without even breaking a sweat.
Until that day we may be condemned to repeat 2014, much to poor Richard Graham's dismay...
Given their extensive injury woes can the Reds create some magic against the Brumbies on Saturday night?
