Departing Queensland Reds star Liam Gill says the team owes it to their long-suffering fanbase to throw everything at the Melbourne Rebels in their Super Rugby season closer on Friday night.

"We've got to prove a lot, not only to ourselves, but our fans. For us to move forward and find a bit of fight for next year, we've got to put out a good performance," said Gill, who will captain the Reds in the absence of James Slipper (sternum).

Gill is one of a number of players, including veteran prop Greg Holmes, who are set to farewell the club after the match as he is heading to France to join Top 14 club Toulouse.
